Have we forgotten?

  • When did we stop posting “Never Forget,”
  • To commemorate those who died in 1999.
  • And at what point do these sons and daughters find their way,
  • Settling into the abyss of the forgotten, a lonely vignette.
  • How are we able to raise our voices in protests and screams?
  • When a child of god bleeds from another bullet's sting.
  • A seemingly American theme;
  • Yet, we still forget the names of the fallen.
  • When a child of god bleeds from another bullet's sting,
  • We protest and scream “Protect Kids Not Guns!”
  • A seemingly American theme.
  • So, when did their names begin to slip away?
  • As we protest and scream “Protect Kids Not Guns”
  • And chant “Remember the Names,”
  • Have their names already slipped away?
  • 201 vibrant futures snuffed out by the malevolent bullets of 249 guns.
  • Saving weapons instead of lives, we chant “Remember the Names.”
  • Remember the 26 sons and daughters who died in 2012.
  • Twenty-six victims of Sandy Hook, eyes shut by a malevolent bullet.
  • Can't you recall the stunted lives of little Charlotte Bacon or Daniel Barden?
  • We've grown silent about the things that matter;
  • Instead we focus on the beauty we can see.
  • And forget about the things that cause our hearts to shatter.
  • Haunted by fear for our future and pain from our past.
  • Ignorance blinds us, disguised as optimism.
  • So as we look on the bright side,
  • While living in a country plagued with gun-related deaths,
  • We write in history, “Another child has fallen.”
